Kids on the Move

For over 40 years, Kids on the Move (KOTM), a nonprofit based in Orem, Utah, has been dedicated to empowering families and supporting children with special needs, developmental delays, autism, and other disabilities through therapies, education, and family services. We advocate for the rights of vulnerable children and caregivers, while providing accessible educational resources that empower parents as their child’s best advocates. Together, we build kinder, more inclusive communities.

Kids on the Move partners with the Utah Valley Marathon to raise funds for our Respite Care Program — free, supervised, one-on-one childcare that gives parents of children with special needs a much-needed break from the 24/7 demands of caregiving.

Respite Care was founded by Diane McNeill, whose own son, now an adult, was diagnosed with Down Syndrome and Autism. She saw firsthand how much relief families needed and built a program to provide it, at no cost to parents.
Today we offer Respite Care at three locations — Orem, Lehi, and Springville — but demand outpaces what we can provide. Reducing our waitlist depends not only on funding, but also on having enough volunteers to keep our doors open more often. It costs approximately $160 per child per night to run this program, and every dollar helps us sustain this free service, recruit more volunteers, and give more families the break they deserve.

Meals on Wheels

Our mission: Improve the health and quality of life for our homebound seniors while fostering independence and ensuring no one is left hungry or isolated.

In partnership with MAG, Meals on Wheels Summit, Utah & Wasatch delivers hot, nutritious meals and meaningful human connection directly to the doors of homebound seniors across Summit, Utah, and Wasatch counties. For many of the older adults we serve, that daily knock at the door is more than a meal delivery, 60% of our clients report that their Meals on Wheels volunteer is the only person they see in a day.

Our volunteers provide informal wellness checks with every delivery, creating a consistent safety net for seniors who might otherwise go unnoticed. The result is a program where 85% of clients feel safer and more secure in their own homes.

Despite this strong foundation, a funding gap has placed 364 eligible seniors on a waitlist for services. These are parents, grandparents, neighbors, and community members who qualify for support but are not yet receiving it. Every contribution moves us closer to the day when no senior in our community has to wait for the nutrition and connection they deserve.

Stella H. Oaks Foundation

Our mission is to provide scholarships that enable single mothers to receive the education, skills, and technical training they need to fulfill their educational goals, enter the workforce, and support their children. We accomplish this through our three pillars: Educate, Employ, and Empower. We believe that when you educate a mother, you educate generations. The education of single mothers is a catalyst creating change for women, families, communities, and nations. When women are educated and economically empowered, they re-invest in their families and communities, producing a multiplier effect that contributes to the stability of individuals, families, and societies.

Towards this end, the Stella H. Oaks Foundation receives hundreds of applications and then grants award three times a year to qualified single mothers who show the greatest aptitude for completing their program and improving their situation. Applicants must meet a list of criteria to apply (demonstrated financial need, enrolled at a qualified institution of higher learning, care of at least one dependent child, and a commitment to completion). Technical degrees are highly encouraged as a quicker way to enter the workforce and support a family. Awards are also given to students at community colleges and four-year universities.

Over $4.2 million in scholarships have been awarded to date to single mothers. These moms are enrolled in programs as diverse as the women themselves including business, psychology, education, social work, information systems, accounting, graphic design, and nursing. Over 1,300 single mothers have received a scholarship from the Stella H. Oaks Foundation, making degrees possible that might not have happened any other way. Currently there are 150 women on scholarship with the Foundation with their 300+ kids watching and cheering them on. These single mothers are committed, determined, and hard-working and with financial help from this scholarship program, they are changing the trajectory of their lives.
