Creating a bucket list of marathons to run can be motivating and exciting. Planning for these events can be incentive enough to improve training and switch up running types. These events have varied courses, but also offer a great deal of family entertainment for after the marathon.

Walt Disney World Marathon

Each January, Walt Disney World holds its annual marathon. The marathon tangles through the Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios and Epcot. Many participants dress up in their best Disney gear for the event. After the marathon, you and your family will have the very best of Orlando and your fingertips. This is an extremely popular marathon, so be sure to sign up early.

St. Jude Rock ‘n Roll Nashville Marathon

Nashville is home to country music and offers a wonderful opportunity to enjoy running at the same time. Held in April each year, the St. Jude’s Marathon includes live bands, cheer teams, and block parties along the course. In addition to the marathon, you and your family can visit the Grand Ole Opry, Country Music Hall of Fame, and visit Civil War attractions. The best part of this race is helping to raise money for a wonderful cause.

Air Force Marathon

For patriotic types, you can’t go wrong with the Air Force Marathon. The race takes place every September in Dayton, Ohio. Runners and their families will see a flyover, aircraft history, and be able to visit the official Air Force Museum. The event draws in approximately 15,000 runners every year, but is not extremely crowded along the route. Much of the event takes place on Wright Patterson Air Force Base, where crowd control is in place.

Utah Valley Marathon

The Utah Valley Marathon is growing in size every year. The scenic 26.2 miles course allows runners to see the very best views Utah has to offer. Canyon roads, mountains, and waterfalls make this a race not to be missed. The race occurs every year in June and is located conveniently outside Salt Lake City. Home to amazing outdoor activities, the even takes place at the perfect time of year for a camping trip. Visit National Forests and Zion National Park, a few hours to the south.

Boston Marathon

No marathon list is complete without the mothership Boston Marathon. Since 1897, runners have been flocking to the streets of Boston for the infamous race. The race is on the bucket list of runners from around the world. The Boston area is incredibly rich with US history, and the perfect destination for families. The race is held every April, which typically allows for outdoor activities such as sight seeing and baseball games.
